After a several years of construction and delays, empty dry casks for the above-ground storage of highly-radioactive spent nuclear fuel from Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant are set in place, on a concrete pad just beyond the plant's main nuclear reactors, in preparation for the first arrival of spent fuel.





Monday, November 5, 2007 - Nuclear Power Generators

In an early morning fog, a large barge carrying two 350-ton replacement steam generators arrived in the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant intake bay, part of a two-year project to extend the life of the power plant by replacing key operational parts dating over 30 years from the plant's original construction.
